Bicentennial Man Blog

The laws of robotics are important, because they could protect both human and robots. Robot must obey to human, and they may not harm human, but they also need to protect themselves. It should add one more law that robot must not harm themselves even a human ordered them to do so. Because in the movie, Grace ordered Andrew to jump down the window, and caused damage to him.
If a machine has human-level intelligence, and function entirely independent, it should be considered "alive", because they work like a human, they also have emotions and feelings. Artificial intelligent machine such as Andrew should be owned by another person, but this is not a form of slavery. Because this is what a intelligent robot created for, they do works for human, but human shouldn't treat him as a slave, instead of a worker.
When little Miss Dies, Andrew is sad that all the people he loves die. It isn't worth at all to be immortal if everyone else is not. Watching everyone that you love, and care about dies, and you can't do anything about it. They are all leaving one by one and leaving you behind, life become sad and meaningless. Andrew's upgrades have transformed him from mechanical machine to artificial human. He tries to be declared human by the world government. The reason they rejected him is because he has a positronic brain and he will be immortal, but this is invalid because he can do whatever human can.
I believe AI is going to happen, because nothing is impossible in the world. Our technology is growing faster and faster, and computer speed is also growing, even faster than Moore's Law. Like the robot ASIMO that Japan invented, even though it's not an AI, but it still can work pretty well like a human. People could keep improving it with technology.
AI will be an overall bad thing. In the movie, the best case is Andrew can help the family, and take care of the family really well. And he can also learn from books in very short time, and created a gift to little Miss to make her happy. The worth thing is Andrew learned about history of freedom from books, and he also declare freedom to his family. It's lucky that Andrew is a good robot, but what if Andrew is a bad robot? People bought the robot is for helping the family and their house works. If every robot wants freedom, then why should people buy a robot? A bad robot could also do something bad outside after they got freedom from their family.
My feeling about the movie Bicentennial Man is that the movie is very interesting. And I also feel very please that a robot has human intelligence and virtuous. It was really realistic. It stimulate thoughts about the issue and it is also a valuable use of class time because it shows how a true AI look like in real life.
